A Guide for the Nebraska Registration Renewal Process

February 20th, 2023 by

When you own a vehicle in the state of Nebraska, you are responsible for renewing your registration yearly. We’ve put together a comprehensive guide at Woodhouse Nissan Bellevue to help with the Nebraska registration renewal process.

When Is My Registration Due?

Vehicles are registered throughout the year on a staggered monthly basis. Your registration’s expiration date is based off the month you purchased the vehicle. If you own two or more vehicles, you can opt to elect which month all of your registrations will be renewed.

Where Do I Register My Vehicle?

Your vehicle should be registered in the county you reside in, if you house your vehicle there the majority of the time. You can renew your registration in person, by mail, or you can renew a car registration online. (Keep in mind, you can’t renew online if you need to make any changes to your information or your registration has been expired for over a year.)

How Much Will It Cost?

For specific registration fees and taxes, contact your County Treasurer or you can get an estimate with a Motor Vehicle Tax Estimator.

What Do I Need to Renew?

Make sure you have the appropriate documentation before attempting your renewal. You will need:

  • Your registration document that’s expiring
  • An original document showing proof of financial responsibility (insurance)

After your information is verified and you’ve paid your fees, you’ll get your registration and a new sticker. (If you renew by mail or online, everything will be mailed to the address on your renewal notice.)
