Do Electric Vehicle Drivers Get a Nebraska Car Tax Credit?

Nebraska EV car tax

The money drivers will spend paying off the Nebraska EV car tax and registration fees will pale in comparison to how much they will save by never having to stop by a gas station ever again. But how does shopping for a fully electric vehicle impact the buying process in the Omaha area? Let’s take a look.

What Is the Nebraska Car Tax?

When you buy any car within the state of Nebraska, new or used, a 5.5% sales tax is imposed at the time of purchase. This tax comes in addition to the other fees required to get your vehicle on the road, including a registration fee, plate fee, and a motor vehicle tax.

Because you are interested in buying an electric vehicle, an additional $75.00 fee known as the Alternate Fuel Fee is imposed. This is because fuel is another taxed commodity, and because you will not be purchasing fuel, this fee is imposed to cover the difference.

What Are the EV Incentives?

While all of those fees may seem daunting, they pale in comparison to the incentives. The Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is offering a $4,500 rebate on the purchase of a new electric vehicle and Level 2 charging station to residential buyers.

To further sweeten the deal, an additional $500 rebate is offered to help cover the costs of the installation of your very own at-home Level 2 charging station. That’s a total of $5,000 dollars to offset all the taxes and fees incurred by the transaction—and it doesn’t even take into account federal subsidies.

Is a $4,500 rebate enough to get you interested in shopping for electric vehicles? If so, make your way down to Woodhouse Nissan Bellevue today to check out the available selection.  If not, come by all the same and let us convince you in person!
