Your Guide to Nebraska Vehicle Registration

While purchasing a vehicle is complicated enough, it is only half of the battle when it comes to getting your new vehicle on the road. Registering your vehicle with the state can be equally as confusing. At Woodhouse Nissan Bellevue, we want all of our buyers to be fully informed, so we’ve assembled this quick guide to help you through the Nebraska vehicle registration process!

Where do I register my vehicle?

The moment your new vehicle purchase goes through, a countdown timer begins. Buyers are given thirty days from the moment of purchase to register their vehicles with the County Treasurer and pay the vehicle’s sales tax.

Your vehicle must be registered with your local County Treasurer, not the Country Treasurer local to the dealership where you purchased it from.

If you split your time between multiple locations, consider where the vehicle will be housed a majority of the time. This is where the vehicle must be registered to.

What do I need to register my vehicle?

If you are registering a vehicle for the very first time, you are required to bring Proof of Financial Responsibility, proof that your vehicle’s sales tax has been paid, and a copy of your vehicle’s lease if you are registering a leased vehicle.

Proof of Financial Responsibility can include a Certificate of Insurance, Bond or Property Bond, Certificate of Deposit, or a Certificate of Self Insurance.

No matter what form of proof you provide, the original documents must be provided. Photocopies will not be accepted at the time of registration.
